Chris Tracy will Present
World War I & II Military Clues and Resources for Genealogy
Don’t let the 1973 fire at the Military Personnel Records Center near St Louis discourage you in your quest for information about your ancestor’s service in the army in World Wars I or II. At some point in your ancestor search you probably heard “Oh, you can’t get your grandfather’s army record. They all burned up in the fire in St. Louis.”The fire, on July 12, 1973 did result in the loss of 16 to 18 million official military personnel records, but the researcher’s task is not hopeless.
Chris Tracy (aka “Genealogy Chris”) to the rescue! He tells us “Given the magnitude of these wars; chances are your ancestors were called to serve in the military. Learn how the clues from stories, pictures, letters and other documents can put the pieces of your ancestor’s military service together” in spite of the damage done in the disastrous fire.
Chris will be the speaker at the January 2020 MCGS General Meeting, at the Community Center, 72 Broad St., Eatontown. Join us for refreshments and networking at 1:30 p.m. followed by the business meeting and speaker at 2 p.m.
